Default VC1862 vacuum cannister install

well got around to installing the vacuum cannister Mr Lars recommended, just had to wait for the local Napa warehouse to have it in stock so i didn't have to pay for shipping ....which was as much as the unit....heres the pictorial scoop about 8 mins worth of work...very easy to install

heres the scoop, this is a comparison of the vacuum cannisters under a load condition, it is the same initial timing,i didn't change anything other then switch vacuum cannisters: (gear/degrees/inches of vacuum/rpm): with the proform adjustable vacuum cannister connected R/35*/17"/800 rpm, N/35*/17"/1000, D/35*/15"/800
with the VC1862: R/44/14"/850, N/44*/17"/1100, D/44*/14"/900

for some reason my base timing is higher then before with the new cannister, i am theorizing this is because the plunger rod of the new cannister is a little longer then the old cannister increasing the timing , so i reset everything with vac can disconnected to base timing of 22* at 900 rpm ,this gave me 24*/1100,26/1300, 28/1500, 30/1700,32/1800, 34/2000, 36*/2400. with vac can connected it gave me 39*/1000/18"...i will drive it tomorrow and test it all then re adjust speed demon for the new cannister

good morning , heres where we are today

played around for hopefully the last time and this is what we have:

19* base timing, v/c disconnected, heres the advance curve
20/1200, 22/1300, 24/1400, 26/1500,28/1700, 30/1800, 32/1900,34/2300, 36/2400......38/3300 and its maxed out

vac can hooked up in park 35*/1050/18" of vacuum
so then i adjusted carb and this is what i got
Park, 35*, 975-1025, 17+"
Reverse, 750-775, 14"
Neutral, 975-1025, 17+"
drive, 750-800, 14"

and i discovered that my cars tach is off by about 200rpm compared to my tuneup meter...

so i have 19* base + 17 centrigugal + 16 vacuum= 52*
with the 36 centrifugal coming in at 2400...and and extra 2* at 3300

eng specs, 355, xe268h, fuelie heads, speed demon, headers,2 1/2 duals, performer intake

Interesting Bob, thanks.

I'm doing this same project -tuning this weekend. I have to run 30* initial for best vacuum and thought that was crazy but it looks like your running 35* with the vac can.

Have you road tested this? Notice any changes?

only road tested last nights settings, and they seemed ok thought i heard some detonation once but could not repeat the noise...perhaps it was bumps inthe road.....will test drive it a little later today...

Bob -
The numbers all look good. It should run very well for you in that configuration.
