Hello everyone,
I have noticed that my ground strap is not connected to my engine.
It just dangling from the inside of the motor mount brace that connects to the frame.
Where on the engine do I run the wire to, so that I get a good engine ground???
Thanks,
Joe
Iam working on it now.
There is an open bolt hole in the front of the engine, to the left of the timing chain cover. (if you are looking at hte engine from the front of the car) it is on both sides actually. Can I use that?
Thanks,
Joe
Sure that wouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you have a good clean ground on the block and I would put a star washer between the block and the ground strap. Also make sure it away from any heated or moving parts. Good luck.
68 Coupe,
My 68 is in the shop for paint so I can't look but I will try to find this in my factory assembly manual and get back to you.
I am in Sudbury, are you in Boston or Suburbs?
Kurt
According to the Assembly Manual UPC 12 section A13 the ground strap bolts to the frame just below the engine mount on the passenger side and the other end mounts to the stud that holds the starter brace to the engine just under the exhaust manifold. The cable is not very long , less than 12 inches or so.
That'll work, you are getting a ground somewhere or I doubt your starter would work. An electrical guy told me a good test is use a voltmeter between the engine and frame. Without a ground there will be some volts registered presuming some electrical stuff is turned on.
