Default Header Advise for '77???

I'm looking to get hugger style headers for my 77 350. Should I get the strait down collector or the ones where the collector flange is at an angle??? I'm a bit concerned that the strait downs might not clear the idler arm. One rod shop guy told me the strait downs will work but i'm looking for advise from vette guys. Any comments are much appreciated.

I have a 77 and mine angle back. They fit well and I don't have a heat problem with the starter.

Thanks for the reply. Just so I know, are the headers you are talking about like these ebay items?

I've got the straight ones, similar to the ones in the auction you linked to. They fit fine, as well.

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like both styles of huggers will work. Centered collector with angled flange and centered collector with strait down flange. Do the strait down collectors interfere with access to greasing the idler arm? Maybe a 90 deg fitting is needed?

Why hugger style? I have been using Dynomax ceramic coated long tube, in my '76, for a couple of years and love them. No clearance issues, but, pipe from header collector to exhaust system will need to be fabricated.

I'm looking to get hugger style so I can go from those collectors to catalytic converters then out to side pipes. The headers in the photo seem like they will be very close to the idler arm. The rod shop I bought them from are telling me they won't fit but some Vette parts web sites (McJacks) sell ones that look almost exactly the same. The pipes do not bend back toward the block much. It appears that the bends from the center two pipes are at 90 deg and then the pipes run strait down.
