Default After mechanical tach replacement...

with an electronic tach setup, I now have a big hole in the side of my distributor. Went to the hardware store to look for something that might be useful for plugging it, but couldn't find anything that might work. None of the pipe caps would fit the threads, and I couldn't find anything else that looked like it would fit the bill. Any ideas?

It's just a stock distributor, but I've converted to an electronic tach and took out the tach cable. Now I need to cover the hole.

Here's what I'd do until you find something better...

Take the big threaded end section off the cable (you might have to cut the old cable). Run a small screw into the hole and add a nut on the other side. Screw this assembly back on the distributor.

Sorry. I was trying to be cute. REPLACE the stock distributor was the recommendation.

But that aside, I agree that just snipping off the old cable is probably the best solution for now. You don't want dirt getting into the works through the tach drive fitting, but I'm unaware of any "plug" that would screw onto it. You might think of hitting a transmission shop to see if they have plastic/rubber plugs that go onto speedometer cable fittings for new transmissions. (?)

I thought that's what you might be saying, but then I reread my first post and thought it might not have been as clear as it should be. Thanks for clarifying.

I most likely will end up changing the distributor eventually, but for the meantime it looks like I'll just take out the gear and attach the cable. Don't really want to cut it, as it may be used again some day...

I would just remove the old cable. The open should not be a problem. I don't think you would even see oil on the end. Vs.. cutting the cable. Just IMO.. 99 Nassau Blue, , sold 64 C2 Red conv.
