Default question for vette experts

Ok, Im gonna be startin my vette for the first time in about 4 months. Is their any special way I should start it? My dad said take a plug out, crank it over and get some oil circulated without the engine starting. Any hints or tips??

do not pull the plugs just wasted effort. pull the hot lead to the distributor and crank it about 10 revolutions and then let the oil run down back into to pan. put the hot lead back on. look down into the carb at the squirters and pump the throttle by hand 2 times to make sure you have gas in the bowls and to let a little bit in on the blades. get in pump the accelerator pedal 1 time and hold it about a quarter pedal down and hit the key. should fire right up. keep it running for about 5 min to let the oil really get around in there and you should be good to go.

Give me a call. I've started a few new motors and I have a pre-oiler tool if you have a bigger electric drill. You'll load 1/3 hp down - you need about a 1/2 hp drill to spin a oil pump. I'm probably not that far away. Why 4 months?

Its been in a warehouse off Mill street with a giant RV parked in front of it, and people were living in there, and I was told not to disturb. Then of course with the freezing winter we had, the battery died, I guess thats why 4 months it would be great if you could help, were gonna get it out this friday morning

A common way of circulating the oil through the engine without starting it is to turn a modified distributor shaft with a drill. The oil pump spins from the connection on the bottom of the distributor shaft. Take an old distributor and remove the cam gear. You have to spin the drill the same direction as the distributor would normally spin, I believe its clockwise. After a few minutes you should be able to see oil coming out of the pushrods. Hook up an oil pressure guage to the engine, when you hit around 40PSI you are good to go.
