Default help - Electrical Problem

Well, I'm racing the clock to get my vette drivable by the time Lars gets here.
I installed all the front light wiring and driver's dash last night.
I'm having some troubles, and haven't had the time yet to look through
the diagrams. maybe you have seen this B4:

The drivers side parking lights (and side marker) in the front do not come on.
The directional flasher works, but on the wrong filament of the bulb (which is installed properly).
The passenger side works as expected.

Any ideas ?

I've checked the bulb, the pigtail connector, and the headlight switch.

Thanks for any insight. -Dave

i hate electrical issues. here's a couple of guesses i'll throw your way.

did you swap the right and left park lamps by chance?

do you have a good bulb in the left rear brake/turn signal?

good flashers?

good ground?

clean lamp housing / contacts?

good luck

Sounds like you have a bad bulb somewhere, did you check the rear bulb? When you have a bad bulb, it can cause all kinds of seemingly bizzare symptoms.

Check your emergency flasher button. If it is partially pushed/pulled it can do some weird sheet! On mine if it slightly pushed in the left indicators stop working.

OK - left my dang wiring diagrams at work !!
It does some wierd stuff with the emergency flasher, yes.
Lights off - flashers on - all works as expected.
Lights on - flashers on - very slow flash.
Lights on - flashers off - right works but no left.

The entire rear harness is currently removed. Maybe it's related
to that, but strange the right side works - left nothing.
I'll get the rear done later today.

All the grounds check out electrically - and it's a 75 front harness, so all the contacts are in the plastic socket.

I'll update as I continue connecting everything up.

if your rear harness is disconnected, the rear bulbs have nothing to ground to and I would guess that's what's causing your problem.

True - but the fronts are grounded. They should work without the rear.
I'll be connecting it tonight ... so we shall see. I hope you are correct.
Thanks.

there is a connector on the drivers side by the radiator core support....start there and clean all those connectors. that took care of my funny symptons in my driverside front parking/blinker lights

Dave,

BAD GROUND. Electricity is taking the path of least resistance.

I had exactly the same problems last year after the body shop put my new bumper on plus hitting the horn button caused the parking lights to come on.

The front wire harness grounds to the radiator support. The radiator support grounds to the frame through the two big bolts on the bottom. I pulled and cleaned those two bolts and the associated washers and all my problems went away.

See you Saturday,
Steve

Bob - Steve - You both have valid points that apply directly to my situation.
I had noticed a corroded terminal, but thought I cleaned it enough.
The hardware holding the front together is freshly painted and not terribly tight, yet.

Checking both now ... thanks -Dave
