As I'm getting ready to install a new clutch (done it before but never with new flywheel and clutch) - The book says 'mark X's on it before you pull it. That's great if you are re-installing the same clutch. The flywheel is freshly machined (markings are history) and the clutch is brand new - is there some secret to orienting it?
Thanks -
Application: 1970, LT1, M22 trans, stock style twin disk clutch
the flywheel can only bolt on one way you may have a dowel pin or a hole for one on your crank just line it with that and torque it down, buy a new clutch disc and pressure plate, I think they want you to mark the flywheel to match the pressure plate if you are re-using the old pressure plate so you can put it back the same way, the clutch disc should be marked which side faces the crank, and replace the throw out bearing, I replaced all of my stuff last year, the throw out bearing was a pain in the @ss,getting it off and on the clutch fork, I also replaced my front trans seal and the pilot bearing while I had it apart, if you dont have one of those splined tools to line the clutch disc up go get one they are cheap some clutch kits come with them, Dave

It sounds like when the components are new that I don't have to worry about orientation - the clutch kit comes with a plastic tool. I have a billet one too.
