Default Pertronix Ignitor II ?

Has anyone had good OR bad service from a Pertronix Ignitor II ? I don't have a problem working with points, but my 72 already had the Pertronix installed by the previous owner. So far it is perfect. Is there a surprize hiding around the corner that I need to know about? Should I use the plugs listed for the 72 OR should I go forward to the plugs listed for a 75 (?) with HEI ? Any experience to share will be appreciated.[/B]

Have had both the I and II in my 73 for several years now, no problems with either unit.

I've used both the I and II for over 10 years (8 for the I, and about 2 for the II) with no problems whatsoever.

I have been using them for around 20 years now and the only problem I ever had was "self inflicted" by not allowing enough air gap between the magnet wheel and the pick-up unit which caused the rivts in the pick-up unit to become loose and cause an intermittant misfire that when I discovered the problem, I easily solved by re-riveting the unit back toghether (that was an early unit and later ones use steel instead of aluminum rivets and they won't have this problem happen.) You can always carry around a spare unit or set of points and condensor (the prices on points make Pertronix Units look like they are "free" nowadays.) I use one in my 12 second 72 LT-1 and wouldn't have my Accel 300+ multi fire box if my wife would pay more attention to the shift light in the car (set at 7350 RPM!) The Accel unit has the rev limiter set at 7500 RPM just for my wife!

Thanks for the reply(s) on the Pertronix...With a 12 second C3...you probably need to keep some spare half shafts as well !

Y'all have a good weekend...............Fred
