Default machining water pump stub?

You may have read my thread about the water pump off a big block with 3/4 shaft and the 5/8 march performance pully ive decided since ive got the pump which took probably 4000 klms to get here that im going to machine down the shaft on the end of the w/p instead of opening up the 5/8 pully to 3/4.Basically what im asking is it possible to machine down the end of the shaft without having to pull the pump apart ? thanks!

I'm not a genius by any sort, but wouldn't it be easier to machine the pulley to fit???

It probably would be but i dont want to ruin the pully i mean i cant see it hurting anything but next pump i get will be 5/8 and 3/4 will probably be more difficult to find the way i see it machining the pully a part that usually doesnt need to ever be replaced to accomidate a part that youl probably never find again and wears out doesnt make sense.I know (just get a 5/8 pump the boys say) im stubborn in my old age i guess .

if not machine the pulley, then swap the pump... go for the simplest cure.

Machine the pulley, and make a small adapter ring to use, that way you can use the pulley on either a 5/8 or a 3/4 shaft.

very simply problem you have

nothing would be f ed up if you have a machinist do the job like it's should be done

maybe there are no real machinists in IL.
