Stalling Problem on C3
I bought a 1972 convertible about 3 weeks ago. I am having problems keeping it from stalling out when it's "cold". Once it has been running for 5 minutes or so, it runs fine., great in fact! This problem occurs when I first start it in the morning, lunch time, after work, etc. any time it has set for a few hours. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling out. I really have to "feather" the clutch to keep it from stalling out when I'm starting off. Once the RPM's pickup, there's no problem.
I have a stock rochester carb with a manual choke. The engine does have an aftermarket cam, but I don't know any of the specs (the previous owner to the previous owner put it in). It does "lope" pretty well when you're sitting at a stoplight. I have had two different mechanics look at it. We have adjusted the choke, adjusted the idle, tuned the car up, adjusted the valves, etc. They have indicated that they have done everything that they know to do at this point. The tweaking has made the problem a little better, but it hasn't corrected it. If this is the price I have to pay for having a "hotter" cam, I'm ready to have it replaced.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Should I change out the carb for a unit with an electric choke? Would that help? Any other ideas?
Thanks for any input anyone can provide....
