I've had this nagging vacuum problem for some time now, and hope someone can help with.
When I open the headlights, they snap open just fine. When I close them with the headlight switch, the passenger's side closes after a couple of minutes, but the driver's side will not close until I manually lift open the wiper door. After that, it will close after about a minute. Also, the wiper door will not open on it's own, it always needs some manual help. This may be because much of the mounting hardware is either missing or Bubba'ed.
Thanks. Some of the schematics may help trace the problem. I have a feeling that either a hose has been re-routed or is missing completely. I seem to have the exact opposite problem that most people have - they have droopy headlights.
There are three operation vacuum lines (they do the work of moving the headlight/wiper door). They are the fat ones.
The one that runs to the wiper door actuator is tee'd with one of the headlight actuator's lines. I'm wondering if maybe that line has a leak in it since that's the only place where the headlights and wiper door have anything in common.
It's also possible that one of the actuator relay valves is bad.
The best way to debug the vacuum systems is to start at the manifold and begin moving towards the vacuum components, checking for vacuum leaks as you go. Isolate the components (i.e., unplug the wiper door system from vacuum source and debug the headlights).
Don't be surprised if you start finding things that don't work well. To get my systems tight, it ended up costing me a few hundred dollars.
