Default Problems with cam

Ok, now I have the Comp cams XS274S with solid lifters in my vette, but with 9.5:1 compression it it's turning out not to be the best cam since I don't have higher compression. Well anyways I used to have the Comp XE268 Cam with Comp hydralic lifters. Around 5,000 RPM I began to have problems where the engine broke up, I believe the hydralics got "pumped up"; this occured even after putting in bigger springs. Anyone running different brand hydralic lifters that work good with this cam? I liked the other cam because it gives you that seat of the pants torque. Can someone give me some advice?

Not to pick on you, but regardless of big or small block, you should always use the cam kit they recommend with the cam. Sounds like you are trying to mix hyd lifters with a solid lifter cam.

I was gonna say "how's the ignition system? not electronic i hope"

If it's points he can just change to a stiffer spring version like Accel or NAPA makes. Presto...no more bounce.

I agree....you SHOULDN'T be using hydraulic lifters with a solid lifter cam.

i sure don't care if u guys use points,
but don't complain MY POWER IS LOW
.
in 1972 i learned how to make points work well. i doubled up on the spring and used CD ignition.
shifted at 7000 no problem. switch off the CD and it ran 1 sec. slower in the 1/4
KISS isn't always fastest, just simple

Note I said POINTS with an "S" . I will be using a 1962 dual point distributor with no vacuum advance. Hence, no need for CD
Okay...we hijacked enough here. I'm still wondering if pastortroy
is running hydraulic lifters with a solid lifter cam and roller rockers

I have a complete library. I use what's worked for me in the past. CD and MSD is fine for street cars that need to burn fuel at low-to-mid RPM. At high RPM they aren't really doing much. The box does give the appearance of a "race car" though
