Ok I went out and bought a rebuilt q jet put it on and car just dosnt have it.. After finding the codes from Rochester its just a Q jet nothing fancy. The original was 795 cfm and this is 650??? code says 75-77 chevy/gmc truck 454... Now I see Rochester sells many carbs but there is always a listing for corvette. Is there a difference between vette carbs and a regular carb talking about Rochester. If so what carb and how big should I invest in now??? Thanks Randy
I may be wrong, but the main metering rods may be too large to get the performance (.034 vs .026 in performance apps) that is generally associated with quadrajets. Send an email to Lars with the carb number, and he should be able to point you in the right direction.
Also, quadrajets are considered a variable CFM carb (at least all the ones I've seen), so it will pull generally all the air you need I think, once again lars is the guy for this.
Any carb you put on will require some adjustment to tailor it to your engine. You could have two carbs with the same settings and they could behave differently on the same engine.
These two articles will get you started. They say get your carb back to factory specs and go from there.
650cfm is plenty of air till you get into some fairly serious hp. I would definately second reading lars' papers on setting up/tuning a q-jet. He is the master no question...
