Have any of you guys seen;used,(installed) the Hooker Headers+ Sidepipes, that Mid America have for sell in their Catalog that are all one piece. If any of you guys used them, how about some feedback on how you like them;if they were decent to install, etc. Thanks Shady80 (80 vette 4-speed)

The hooker header exhaust on the mid america site is the headers and the sidepipes. They are put together in the picture, but are really separate pieces.

Default no baffle

I just finished putting them on my 75. LOUD , Watch your legs getting out. I had to switch to plug wires with 90% ends spent about 5 hours putting headers and sidepipes on and about 5 hours figuring out I had two plug wires switched. :lol

startwith80vette, I am thinking of going to sidepipes and read you had just put yours on. So you didn't have to do any cutting to the rocker panels, alot of people have been saying they had to trim them a bit. Also what muffler/baffle did you go with?

Thanks,
Teresa

yeah, i didnt have to trim the rocker panels at all, they were a bit of a pain to slip back behind the pipes but easy enough to screw back in, im running the hooker glasspacks, which i rush ordered after i started the car with open pipes thinking it wouldnt be "too" loud, it was, i like how the glasspacks, they have a nice tone

I Installed Hooker Side Mounts a few years ago. I did have to do a slight radius trim on the covers, both sides.
Its a one person job for the most part, But another set of hands underneath the car when it comes time to bolt up to the heads makes it alot easier.
The pics and some details are at
www.weavermill.com/exhaust/hookers.htm
if you want to see how it went.

Thanks Tom, I am going to bookmark that page for future reference. Did either of you guys have them jet-hot coated? Also, where did you guys get your glasspacks from?

Startswith80vette, do you have any pics with the new sidepipes on?

BEWARE! of using glasspack mufflers in your side tubes. They will cause your tubes to rust through due to the unburned condensation that collects there. At least that happened to mine about 18 yrs ago. Your best bet is to use an all metal muffler or baffle.

had mine dechromed and jethot coated. get your baffles from spiralturbobaffles.com i also had to notch my side panels. oh and don't forget the anti seize between the header and sidepipe or else they don't like to come apart in the future

In retrospect I would have had them Jet Hot coated. Mainly because with just chrome , the engine compartment gets super hot. I have MSD heat resistant boots on the plugs and have had problems with them burning.
Cosmetically , I think the upkeep with jet hots would be alot easier on the outside. It Takes alot of extra effort keeping that great chrome mint looking.

They are optioned with either reverse flow or glass packs from the vendor , Baffles have to be ordered special aftermarket like where Startswith80vette Got them. I got glasspacks, because my car is in Calif. alot of the time, and LEO isnt as tolerant with a vette running Baffles around town. More HP with baffles though. What to do what to do..haha.

Where does one get the parts dechromed/coated? Is it a common thing local shops do?
