74 odometer set to zero?
HI
my sons and I are rebuilding a 74 and they want to reset the odometer to zero - it is already out of the car - how do you reset it without breaking it? Thanks

It is only illegal if you try to sell it with a rolled back odometer and claim it as having original miles. Also here in WA, anything over a certain age is considered to have unknown mileage.
I see nothing wrong with wanting to roll it back on a restored car.

HI
Thanks for the replies -
its not illegal on a restored car if its reported as being reset
and in Texas if the car is 10 years old one does not have to gurantee milage as correct when selling the car.
We want to set it to zero since all is new and they are starting out from the beginning -
I myself would not do anything illegal - especially to a Corvette

Once you open up the speedometer housing, you should be able to rotate the odometer by hand to get to 0. Make sure you go in the same direction that it normally goes and go from the lowest digit to the highest. I have never done this, but it seems like the right way to do it. If you encounter a lot of resistance, then stop. The last thing you want to do is break something in there.
