did you mean to have an IF in there or are you predicting the outcome?

and at some point after we get enough answers we will have to start another poll on other cam types so we can compare....

268 here, maybe 1500 miles. No problems and no reason not to use comp again.

I see some have voted more than once in the same poll. How is that possible?

Wiped out a lobe after about 5,000 miles. Run great for a year, then when I was getting it ready the following spring and the motor had a bad ticking, and I had been starting it weekly over the winter with no problems. I found a loose rocker arm and adjustment didn't help, would run ok for a few seconds, and it would be loose again, found one of the lifters wasn't pumping up. I followed the comp cam's install procedure also. I don't know if it was my fault or comp cam's, but I saw it as an excuse for a 383 install

morning roundup

35 votes.....30 favorable, (26 sbc,4bbc)

5 others had problems or were not satisfied....some people posted right to the problem area, so you have to subtract the favorable responses from the total votes to get this number.

interestingly only 2 of the 5 attributed it to design issues and the rest attributed it to break in or installation issues. surprisingly to me no one had mismatched component issues.

lets see what today will bring, and if yu haven't voted yet remember you can select several choices. bob

I could respond in more than one category. I had an XE262 for 5 years or so and I loved it. It wiped on me after 5 years. I replaced it with an XE268 that lasted less than 100 miles. I finally put in an ISKY282MEGA, no problems.

I do have another motor in another project and I have installed an XE294HR in it.

heres the latest stats...
40 people repsonding....some have had multiple Comp Cams and some have had both successes and failures and some attributed problems to more then one category.....this is not a sceintific poll, and be glad i'm not the guy doing testing on your prescription medications....
heres the conclusions so far, (remember people have the opportunity to make multiple choices so drawing conclusions is not so straight forward as you may think)

35 satisfied users
5 people had these cams and had problems, of the problems mentioned they fall in these categories, some fell into more then one category

5 attribute problem to installation issues
4 attribute it to break in problems
2 attribute it to poor design
1 attributes problem to mismatched components

So far 20 people have voted. More would be better.

The lastest results:
11 out of 40 have either had problems or would not recommend, 27.5%.

It would be great to see another poll of other cams. One out of four seems to be even higher than i would have imagined. I would have expected upwards of 10%. Is it the cam or is it the installer?

40 people have voted not 20
the math is not so simple since people can make multiple choices when they vote, however they are only allowed one chance inthe voting booth...of the 40 people who voted.... 35 votes were cast indicating satisfaction, and 3 votes were cast indicating they had problems and 11 votes were cast indicating the areas where they had problems....since people can cast multiple votes we will never know if the same person cast multiple votes of there problem areas since they overlap and had the ability to pick several areas....we do know they could only have voted for the first goupings once so that is probalby the most reliable....and of the votes cast indicating problems 10 indicated they were related to installation, break in or mismatched components and two related the problems to poor design....unfortunatley the POLL set up has limitiations. And to complicate matters some people have had multiple cams and cast multiple votes positive and ngeative, and some people didn't know they could vote for multiple choices. you need to reevaluate your stats taking into consideration the effect of being able to cast multiple votes.
