my brake booster does not leak air .it does work but it does not hold the car at idle onless you put a lot of foot presure onthe pedal it is not like newer cars that you just tap on the brake s .is this normal for this year vette or is the booster shot and need replacing .can any thing happen if you blow air into the booter ?
it works off of vacuum, so don't blow ait into it....you could be running at low vacuum or have a booster problem...I always check the easiest, cheapest things first - like vacuum...
i have good vacuume to it and it will hold vacuume .but it does take alot of foot presure to hold the car at stoplight .car idles at 650 to 700 rpm .most cars just a light presure on the pedal will hold it
How do your brakes feel at speed?
If they seem to work good at speed, then maybe you have other problems, I would look at the tranny not slipping at idle like it should...
had not thought about the trans .it seems to work fine .when i turn off the motor and pull out the line going into the booster you can here it loosing presure .so it must be getting vacuume and its holding vacuume but it does not work well .i will take another look at the trans .
Marc, he said it's 650-700 rpm, he had a tight converter, like I went to....I hated that sloppy loose vette converter I had...2000 rpm stall rating....I put in a 800 rpm truck converter...just pull into neutral at traffic lights...
Oh yea, you're right....then the tight converter is what's giving him the idea that the booster is shot. the booster does not hold your rbakes for you, you still have to push the pedal the same amount to displace the same amount of fluid because that's related only to MC bore size and the amount the pistons travel. So, with a tight converter you're already close to fulls tall @ idle, so the trans is actually positively driving the output shaft. Why on earth would you want a 800 stall converter??
