Cooling System Question

OK Ive got a question . . . Is there anything unique with vettes cooling systems that causes the upper radiator hose to remain hard after the thermostat opens?? Im trying to get the car to run cooler, replaced the stat with a 160 ( I know . . I know it should be a 180 so please dont repond with the

My upper rad hose blows up like a sausage when hot. Not sure why...everything is new and cooling properly.
