Engine swap project is grinding on and my 383 is resting comfortably in my engine compartment. The stock lower alternator support bracket mounted to the cast iron manifold and won't work with the headers (Hooker Super Comps)I now have on the car. What have others done? I have ordered a support from Hooker but I can't tell how it will work from the photo at Jegs. T Hooker it appears it mounts on the firt exhaust flange but points to the side of the car. Anyone used a Hooker Alternator support bracket? Any ideas on the best solution? This can't be all that unique I wouldn't imagine. My car is a 68 with no A/C, no power steering or power brakes. I just need to line up the alternator close to stock to keep my belts aligned.
If your heads are drilled for bolts in the front get a setup from a newer car. My 72 mounts to the head and the arm is mounted to the water pump. Wish I had a picture but this system is much better than the one mounted to the exhaust manifold.

Many thanks!

I have a '69 with a 383 and Hooker Super Comps.....easy solution, use the stock 1971 style alternator bracket....this bracket attaches to the cyl. head and positions the alternator away from the headers.....also you can use the "curved arm" bracket for tension adjustment.....no need for the recommended "Hooker style attachment bracket".
Looking at Rik's Catalog it appears that there was an aluminum and a cast iron bracket. It also states the offsets are different. Any idea which is which? Even then it is still a guess because it assumes my heads line up just like stock.
I broke a few different brackets untill I got this Zoops aluminum one. Solid as a rock, but a bit pricey. It bolts to the front of the head only,so headers and even the intake makes no difference.(I was thinking 6-71 at the time, but cash flow has put a damper on that for now.)

Thanks for any guess.

I use the cast iron one (1971 style)....fits stock drilled accessory holes in head, & also aluminum heads w/stock located holes.
I noticed at Summit Racing that the Zoops unit for the 350 only goes to 1968 - do you think it would fit a 1970? It sure is cool looking. I can't imagine that the 1970 would be much different from a 68....
It appears that it simply bolts to the engine with two bolts in the head - mine are already drilled and threaded....

sorry for the highjack but my alternator set up is crap (using the hooker bracket....)
Here's a link from the archives to a thread on the same subject. Some of the pics have broken links, but a few still work, maybe you'll find some usefull info.
