I recently purchased a 1971 corvette coup. I was assured the numbers were matching but discovered receipts for a "remanufactured" engine. Upon investigation the stamp appears to support the motor beign original, but the date code leaves some question. I am unable to determine if the date code represents an engine dated January 16, 1971 or January 6, 1967? i have attached the picture for those of you who can tell the difference between the chevy 7 and 1.
Please help!
Now that i have typed this i cant figure out how to get my picture into the post!
Does the pad also contain your car's VIN? Something like SXXXXX with the Xs representing the consecutive unit number for your car? If that number is on the pad, it's a good possibility your engine is original.
Yes, on the plate just above the flywheel and on the passenger side it has the correct information stamped.....including the vin reference.
both of the numbers stamped there indicate the motor is original, its just the date stamp that is throwing me for a loop. I cannot tell if the stamp is A767 or A161!
