Default Clock check - Working??

Does anyone know how to see if a clock is working - I have a 74 that we are restoring and the clock is out of the dash - can I just hook up a 12v source to the case (ground) and the screw on the back (hot) to see if it runs or is there a better way?
Thanks

I don't know if that's the right way but that's how I would do it.

But for 60 Bux you can upgrade it to Quartz and it will be much more accurate. You already have it out ... look in a Mid America catalog and take advantage of a modern clock that looks like the old one.

I did - a year ago - and it keeps perfect time.

I ended up changing mine to quartz. It keeps perfect time and looks perfect, too. Only thing I DON'T like is the sweep second hand. I prefer the tick-tick of the Borg clockwork. Small gripe and no fear of intermittent failures...I'm happy.
