ok, looking at getting me a 75 or 77 vette. i was wondering if anyone has ever tried to put in a newer (LT1/LT4/LT5) EFI motor into one. I want the power of the motor plus easier to deal with California emmissions. Thanks for the info
Actually, from what I've read up on this, this is one of the easier transplants, mainly because the block is the same, so you won't have to mess around with making lots of custom brackets and such...
the downside is the wiring, but i believe there are kits for that...
someone will chime in here with more info, but I'd do a search for LT1 conversions, and you'll find lots of info here
as long as the year of the engine will pass the emmissions, you are fine. i can pass with a carbd 350 cause that is what originally came in the car, but really dont feel like rebuilding one. i was just gonna order a crate motor.

You might want to make sure on this. I am pretty sure you have to be able to pass the emissions test for the year of the engine or car whatever is newer.
For engine transplant in CA you need all emissions equipment the engine came with. For an LS1 that means cat(s), evap, air pump etc. You will be tested to the standards of the engine, not car.
