If I wait 5 minutes after shutting down the motor and then try to restart, it is flooded.
Fuel must be leaking somewhere out of the carb into the motor while it sets. I'm running a Elelbrock Performer carb. Where should I be looking for the leak and how far do I need to take it apart to fix it. Thanks for any help!
Would it work to remove the carb, pour fuel into the vent, wait a few minutes to see if it leaks on through and then trying to figure where the leak is located?
It sounds like the fuel has boiled out of the bowl not leaked.
This happens when engine is hot and short interval before restart.
Engine still needs some cranking to restart like 15 minutes later but don't have to hold pedal to floor- not flooded. Both times the bowl is still empty though and engine has to be cranked just to fill that.
I had that problem and got an electric pump to refill the bowl without cranking the engine.
Start engine when cold. Before it ever gets close to warm shut it off and do your 5 minute restart. If it leaks it won't restart. If it don't leak its the boiling problem.
right now i am diagnosing a leak on mine ,its a holley, i have an 8 inch bake pan with the carb sitting on it ,the fuel line only hooked up , i can wind it over to build pressure, try the throttle,my carb buddy used this method to see where it was leaking.a small mirror will help too.he said the primary shot will dribble if its the neeedle valve thus the whole carb is wet inside, mine is only wet on the bottom, he figures metering block or baseplate.

IF the float has a leak, it will sit low and allow fuel to flow into the engine, but only when the pump is running. After the pump stops only a leak will flood the engine.
