Default New programable fan control

This is really a neat little device!

Controller Link
NEW PROGRAMABLE FAN CONTROLLER

* Programable fan on/off points

* Uses factory gauge sending unit

* Varies fan speed

* Signals AC systems with fans

* Dual fans with additional relay harness

Now you can set the fan on/off points at any temperatures you want! This new contoller uses the factory guage sending unit as it's feedback, so you do not have to install any other switch or sensor. The controller will also vary the fan speed as cooling is required. The PWM control module is for controlling a single fan. If dual fans are required, then you will need to purchase another relay harness. Item SP195FH

Tom, I had a post on this a few days ago. I got mine in and working. I have to program it a little better but it works very well.

Hey Tom, I have a set of dual Flex-a-Lite fans. Will this work, and what about relays?

It should work fine. The controller doesn't discriminate because of brand F, they are all 12V.

The controller has a built-in relay inside for the first fan, if you are using it for duals, then you will have to use a relay harness for the second fan. Actually it's pretty neat how that works too. The first fan will ramp up to speed as air is needed, then when the fan gets to full speed it turns on the second fan at full speed and starts ramping up the first fan again.

How did you wire the temp switch? After doing a few of these I found out a few tricks. The harness is packaged with a two wire plug for the later model sensors. This plug has green and black wires.
Since most of the earlier corvettes, including C3's used a single wire sensor for the guage the two wire plug doesn't work. Spal engineering told me to cut the plug off and wire the GREEN wire into the stock sender. Don't use the black wire or the white wire the diagram shows. Is that what you did?

That is not what they told me. I went and got a sender for the newer cars that have 2 terminals and the weatherpack connecter. They told me to ground the white wire and connect the 2 wire plug into the sender. Here is the post I did a few days ago with the pictures. Sounds like I did more work then was needed.

Tom just wanted to say I just received my radiator for my 68 BB I purchased through The Last Detail. I was impressed with the fit and it is a bolt in piece. I hope it cools as good as it fits !!

Default Ditto on the Radiator - put mine in....2 months back?

Engine may blow....but the radiator works great!

I'll have to consider one of these controllers sometime. I LOVE gadgets! Currently my fans run on manual switches only - the 16" Zirgo 3950 on one and the 8"&9" on another.

You know, my intake is currently off awaiting my engine to magically heal itself - this would be a good time to drill and tap another hole for another sensor right on the water passover - to use the one they even expect right in the place you were mentioning was the best location in the other thread on this.

I may STILL be able to SERVE THE CAR! I may STILL have a PURPOSE IN LIFE!!!

I just completed the installation of one of these controllers as well as a new Dewitt A70M radiator with Spal Duals (SP460) in my 69 L46. (Pictures to come)

What a NICE setup this is. Works EXACTLY as Tom has stated. My temp gauge is rock solid and the fans go through their various cycles to keep it there. I am very impressed!!

VERY worthwile investment.

That SPAL controller looks awesome! If I actually had a social life I would have bought the SPAL instead of making my own PWM fan controller:

Here is how PWM works. The horizontal axis is time. The vertical axis is voltage. The fan is on when the signal is high. The fan turns on and off anywhere from 20000 to 100000 times per second. I don't care who you are, thats cool right there.

Good job Boofers. Very ingenious and great pictures. I have been thinking of getting one of the Spal controllers and giving it a shot. I love this idea.

What a man! C L

[geek]
but your scope shows the period of the waveform being the same, ~3.3 divisions per cycle, I don't know your time scale, on each with just the width of the pulse changing so the frequency doesn't change then does it?? It just changes the percentage of on time per cycle??
[/geek]

Oh and I think you are beyond Spal!

Thanks psw69!
I just had a C2 stop by today and he said the same thing. He installed the SP020 rad/fan combo in a 66. The stock sender in those cars is a single wire. He used the "white" wire as the directions say to and it worked perfect. The car never went over 170 on a 90 degree day.

Tom the SP195fh just looks like a standard relay and temp sensor, can't those of us that already have one of these running our current fans just reuse it and wire it into the controller? or is there something special about it? I like the idea about the variable fan speed it should help keep the motor from idling down so far when the fans come on all at once sitting at a redlight.

Yes, you can! Just wire the Spal controller to the PRIMARY fan (you decide which is PRIMARY - I haven't determined whether one is a better choice than the other!). Plug the RELAY harness into the SECONDARY fan. The SENSE line (attached to the RELAY) you now have on the temp sensor will go to the "Second fan" output on the controller. The controller SENSE line will connect to the temp sensor. That's it.
