Default Changing Steering Column - 1971 LS5

Looking to see if anyone has experience switching out a standard steering column for a tilt/telesope column. Specifically for a 1971. Would other years be compatible (1970, 1972, etc) with a 1971? Is it very difficult, or is there anything to look out for?

All T&T steering columns from 1969 through 1976 will bolt right in. You will need the hub, extension, locking ring, horn buttons, tilt and turn signal levers for a 1969 through 1975 T&T column. If you get them with the steering column you will be set to go. Your original steering wheel should bolt right onto the hub that comes with the T&T column.

The 1976 system is a one year only maverick. The actual steering column is the same as the others, but the steering wheel, locking ring, extension, and horn buttons are unique to that one year only. You will need the one year only "Vega" steering wheel to work with those parts. However, if you can obtain all of the first listed parts (1969 through 1975) will be able to use them directly on the 1976 column.

This paper describes dropping and removing the steering column from your Vette. You can skip pages 3, 4, & 5.
