While working on the power windows and door locks on my '79 I decided to replace all the seals on the doors as well. Question is; how do you snap in the seals that install beside the door windows? The chrome strip with the bead is held in place with screws, but the rubber strip with a chrome bead has rectangular plugs that are wedged into similar holes along the top of the door. It also has holes for a couple of screws, but I have pushed, with no success to get the wedges into their respective holes. They should hold quite well if I can ever get them to go in. Is there a trick to this or a special tool? Thanks for the help in advance

Since no one seems to have a quick fix for this problem, I will take the window back out and try a more forceful approach for getting these wedge type fasteners to go into their holes on the door. I'll let you know how I make out.

i've replaced every seal in my 75 but i am having trouble deciphering exactly where and what you mean, door windows,at windshield?? on handle side, splain it better and we can help. make sure you glue everything.
If you are using aftermarket seals, the studs may not be in exactly the right location. Make sure the stainless trim is correctly located first. Put a little grease on each stud, and use the flat part of a screwdriver blade to pop in the studs. (Keep the glass in. You may tear the rubber installing the glass otherwise.) HINT....loosen the top track bolts to give glass more clearance to the seal! You must re-use the 2 small flat-head phillips screws to keep the seal from popping out.....G/L
IF they are lined up right they should just push in. Make sure they are clean and in good condition first. A littel wd-40 or soap will help a lot. I also replaced the rotten screws at each end with stainless steel ones.
Thanks guys,
I didn't try any lubricant on them, probably just what is needed. I have new screws for the stainless trim and the wiper seal. Will give it another go today. The holes seem to be lined up properly; I hope the grease works.

I successfully got the right door wiper seal installed yesterday. The way I finally got the metal tabs or wedges to go into the holes in the door was to use a 3/8 by 7/16 offset boxend wrench. I put the 3/8s end offset against the seal behind the wedge, aligned the wedge to the hole and tapped the wrench smartly with a hammer where it curves while holding the back of the door firmly against my legs. Each tab (wedge) went right in. It would have been nice to have two pairs of hands but I finally got it done without help. Thanks for all the suggestions.
