Default exhaust decision

I've been doing some research into an undercar side exhaust system which seem to be getting more popular recently. I figure the mufflers would be right under the seats and exit, possibly, infront of the rear wheels. I was thinking about one of these two:

or

I like the idea of the open/closed exhaust and i like loud. which of the two will fit while still having some ground clearance and does anyone have experience with the 1st? I know some people here have or have had the bullets but how loud are they really? Can't be any louder than some of the motorcycles in my area.

I'd be concerned about the thickness of the mufflers. The examples shown run from 4" thick to 6" thick. Might be tight!

Hey those are cool. I'm waiting for my duals to come in from Eckler's and have been pondering what mufflers to go with. Those first ones would be great and to have bolt on tail pipe to divert the flames away from the bumper. Sweeet also I posted another question about block hugger headers, any of you know if the factory duals will bolt up without any clearance issues.

Where did you see the 6 inch hight reference? In the description i see 5. I know its only an inch difference but in this case size matters.

Also, still looking for anyone whose had the bullets. I'm wondering how loud they really are. Especially since this is a street car.

In the description of the bullets, it references 4", 5" & 6". You didn't say which set you were using.

Here's the mufflers I'll be using (maybe). They're 2.25" thick:

Could be a little while. I'll be driving around with open pipes until either a) I go deaf, or b) the po-lice give me a ticket.

Hi, I installed the Bullet mufflers on my car with the exhaust exiting in front of the rear tire.

IT WAS LOUD, as in scare the #(@# out of the car beside you loud (which was always fun). I have some pictures of the system somewhere around here, and if you want I will post them.

I have since switched to a full exhaust system with Dynomax Ultra-Flo mufflers, and the car is actually a joy to drive again. I can take my g/f around town and actually hear what she is saying (a curse or a blessing, of which I am not sure ). I had a tubular crossmember built so removing one exhaust system and installing another is only a matter of 4 bolts. SO when I want it LOUD, I can switch over.

EDIT: Here are the pictures. This is before I moved the exit to the side of the car. Under the car the cabin turns into a huge reverberation chamber. Imagine a 90 degree turn where these end.

I had the bullets. They were pretty loud. They'll set off car alarms, make conversation difficult and make your ears ring. But I enjoyed them while they were on the car. They had a little resonance but it wasn't bad at all. If you like loud, go for it. My setup had them in the stock location with a 8" chrome tip peeking out from under the rear bumper.

With that block plate on the back of the muffler I wonder of the QTC Electric cut outs would fit. I have them on my 89 (See Sig) but don't have the switch wired up yet.

ive thought about going sidepipes and tons of other things. the reality for me is that i have a 76 and im in california. im limited because of the smog laws. currently all i can think of is changing the headers and running dual cats/mufflers . currently the Y-Pipe sounds like crap even with old 40 series flowmasters on it. my 78 camaro sounds better than my 76 vette.(and the maro has no compression in cylinder #3)

i was thinking about doing a setup myself at the house...ie. murrays.... to help save me some cash..... but once i went and added up all the prices for what i needed, i was at 150-170 depending on the turbo's or thrush mufflers...... i'm sure i can get a hookup some where i can have it done for about that price...... also, the mufflers mentioned above ...2.25".... those are pricy...130 for one......maybe if i get some cash but for now, i might just do the super turbos and be done with it.... they are 45 bucks a piece...... i would also make a few heat shields between the muff and floor to reduce heat... i figure 2-3 aluminum plates with a nut space between them will help.....
