Should i change the gears in the rear end ? got nothing off the line till about 50 then from there on its like a jet . wondering if thats the gears or not ? new car and still doing work to it but was rated 400+ horse (with little off the line ?)any advice would be great ...thanks.
i could be wrong but with 400+ horsees u should have no prob smokin em up. i believe your car came with 3.08 rears or even 2.78.... not enough torque to do much of anything off the line... so yeah, you something like 3.53 or 3.70 if you wanna impress off the line...just my .02
Thanks ..im now on the hunt for 3.70 s not lookin forward to the change but gunna give it a whirl . shouldnt be that tough tho lol ...thanks again. ill post a pic soon as i figure out how .
3:55 is more common, and will work fine with your auto trans...
The problem with even 3.55 gears and no overdrive is highway cruising is for the pits. The revs are too high for comfort and good engine wear, heat or gas mileage. 3 of us cruise together, 2 with overdrive and one with 3.55. He has no hope of keeping up if we don't take it easy. What is 4000 for him is 2000 for us.
Techno mentioed timing , should i try that first ? not sure tho want it should be at or how to check it ....interior work and body work im good ...engine work lol well thats my weak spot im afraid .

Mark the difference between a good set of say 373 gears and stock 308 gears is only a few tenth's on the drag strip. Honestly how much time do you spend on the drag strip???
If it is only about burning rubber off a light then gears will help at a cost of poor open road performance.
If you need the last few tenths on the strip it will help but for normal cruising in the car it will make the car worst.
The only solution is overdrive transmission for the open road and steep gears for those burnouts.
Another way is get enough motor that it will do either without gearing.
im thinking on just letting it be lol . i do have lots of motor...mild cam ,pro dominator intake duel quads . but car is new to me and have not torn it down to see what the guts are like . had a 396 camaro that just seemed alot fast off the line but the vette blows it away 50 mph and up .less hassel tho and will save rubber if i leave it alone .idles and runs well so i should be happy.
if running a automatic get a good stall speed converter and stay with the 3.08 much better than 3.73 gears my 73 goes 400 sb with dart II heads comp 270 cam team g street ram intake and stock quad garb 12.70s on 3.08 400 turbo and tci street fighter converter that was with the old engine
