Engine floods and dies
I have an 82 Collectors Edition with the 5.7L crossfire engine. On Saturday I had the engine light come on and immediately cut the engine off, checked oil, water etc and in a few minutes it started right up. Scared the snot out of me needless to say as I have only had it two weeks and decided I better do a tune up on it right now and see if that would fix the problem. I replaced plugs, wires and literally everything inside the distributor to include the module. Well it starts, runs smooth, but won't keep running, it stops after 10 to 30 seconds. I took the air cleaners off and was watching the injectors and they are spraying just fine initially but after several seconds they give a big burst of fuel and chokes out the engine. Both injectors are doing the same exact thing at exactly the same time. My question is, is this the Electronic Control Module causing it to put more fuel in than is needed or is it something else and if it is something else what could it be, anyone have any suggestions, your help as always is greatly appreciated. When the Cease-fires (oops, I meant cross-fires) quit, it is normal for the injectors to send a flood of fuel. It is trying it's best to keep running. I would look at anything associated with the fuel pump. This includes the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch. It has 2 contacts which close once the engine starts and has developed oil pressure. G/L
