My oil pressure starts at about 40, but drops to 20-25 after engine warms up. At stops, it goes to zero and I have to shift to neutral to get it to come back up to 20. I just finished an engine upgrade/top rebuild and I see a little oil leaking from the back of the intake manifold. I'd like to see if the gauge is bad, but I can't figure out where the oil sensor is. My Haynes book wiring diagram shows three sensors on the driver's side of the engine, oil pressure switch, temperature switch, and idle stop solenoid. I only see two wires going to the engine and I know which is the temp switch. I see what looks like a bell-shaped housing but I don't know if that's the oil. It sits on the back left side on the block. I want to hook up a manual oil pressure gauge, so I need to know where to hook it up.
Do I need to remove the intake manifold to fix the small leak? Can it be fixed without removal?

my oil pressure was doing the same thing on a new goodwrench 350. I replaced the sender with an new one and it read correctly. I guess 30 years is all we should expect from a sending unit.
to fix the oil leak clean off the area and use your finger to force silicone seal in the crack.
Well, it looks like the oil sensor was the problem. Replaced it and the pressure is staying up. Starts at 50-60psi until warm then settles at 35-40psi. At idle, it will go down to 20-25psi, but comes back up as soon as I press the accelerator.
Also used the finger method to seal the intake manifold. Most of the oil leak has ceased, just have one small area where I need to add some more sealant.
I did the same thing you did...I have zero at idle, I worked on the top half, but I know the problem is in the bottom half. I'm pulling the engine very soon. I used a mechanical gage and it read the same...

get some antifreeze in the oil and washed the bearings? that sucks, always change the oil.
Thanks ! I found it, but much higer on the block than I had expected ! Did u replace your ? Was it difficult ? Seems a lot of wires and tubes in the way !
