Default Broke Hood Release Cable:

I'm sure I'm not the first to pull a bit to hard and have the handle and cable in my hand and the hood of my 72 sealed tight as a drum...Please help sad and disappointed in Augusta GA.

I'm not sure if there's an easier solution to this catastrophe, but this works....remove the front grille and reach up to access the hinge bolts to remove them with a ratchet or open end wrench. Now you can lift the hood from the front and reach the rear cable.....good luck.

Just remove the side gill panel on the driverside fender. You can then reach up and pull the cable on the hood and it will open.

Default Sad Situation!

I did the same thing. I posted on the forum and got a solution. I believe that a screwdriver angled back from the wiper compartment got things loose. I gave the info to mech. Hopefully the kind member that helped me will surface. You might check the catalogs, it might have been there that I was directed. Sorry that I can't be more help. I have some wire wrapped on just in case.
I wonder if some old style hood locks would work? Then I could get rid of the cable/latch set up.

If you get the car up in the air, you can look up at the latch from below, and use a pry-bar to release the latch..

I agree with removing the side grill. Since you have a 72 you can remove the grill, reach up and unlatch. I have done this and it is much easier than removing the hood.

I broke the cable in my 71 awhile back and just removed the side louver to pop it loose. Just order another one from a Vette parts store. Not a bad job.

I remember a post about this. It sounded easy enough, one of those things you read and don't want to forget, somthing like in the wiper blade compartment remove the plates on both sides. you should be able to reach in with a screw driver and pop each latch. look at another car or good picture to see how it works.Do a good search here in the forum before tearing something apart.
