hi guys, apparently "bubba" had a hand in the replacement of the oil dipstick.apparently the dipstick rotted off and bubsey thought he'd just stick a new one in.it wouldn't fit in the hole so he grinded it down to fit.
now the stick is loose and floppy.
my guess is that there's a holder clip of some kind to stop the tube from coming out.would this piece just hammer out down into the pan?and then tap the new one in?
i have to drop the pan this week to replace or reseal the pan gasket. do i need access to the inside of the pan to remove this part,or will it just go to the bottom and stay there.?
any help will be greatly appreciated.
The block is cast to the correct size and depth hole. You will need to clean the hole from the top side.I just put in a billet dipstick and had to hand file the rust scale out of this to get the dipstick to seat.
I had this problem on a '68 327. The tube broke from bending back and forth not from rust. I used an easy out to get a bite on the tube and pulled it out with lock pliers. You may not have to remove the pan. I did but it was a waste of time. I put magnets on my oil filter to catch small metal peices;however, really small pieces.
