Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
Today my power windows stopped working, dug out my relay and found it to be dead, my question is, do I even need the relay if I just jump out the plug with the power to the window switches? What is the negative doing so? Windows work just great this way. Thank You All in Advance.
I just went thru the same thing with mine but the switches were bad. I replaced them and the windows literally jump up and down the tracks. The power window relay has been discontinued by Chevrolet but a company by the name of Modern Chevrolet bought the right to reproduce this and many other parts for Chevy cars. The AC Delco part # for the relay is 7729602. It is also used as a relay for camero cowl vent. The cost is approx $19.00 and I received mine in one day. Their phone # is 1-800-334-0165. Hope this helps!

The reason you shouldn't bypass the relay is:
A relay controls a larger current with a smaller current. If the relay is bypassed the larger current would need to flow through the switch. This presents a fire hazard and is likely to damage the switch.
the switch is rated at more than 30 amps... the relay for the windows has the ignition and 30 amp power.... the relay in this situation only works when the ignition is on....but the main power of 30amps is still going to the switch......... if you look at the wires to the switch and to the door, they are both the same gauge...... also, if it was for the little power operates the big power idea then you would need a relay for each side....... i needed my windows to work without the ignition on so i wired them with a fuse to the battery.... ........
