Jim,

I've read and put your papers to good use. I've also exchanged emails and IM's with you. Your wisdom and willingness to share your knowledge are greatly appreciated.

BTW, I just updated the In Vehicle Gear Adjust paper. It now has a labeled diagram of the C3 steering gear. The revision date is 02AU05 and is available at Terry Rudy's www.corvettefaq.com websight in the Steering Section.

Jim and everyone -
I just saw this posting and saw the link to Jim's paper. I have never put my name on Jim's paper, and I have no idea how his paper has been posted on that site with my name on it.

I frequently will forward technical information that I have in my files to people requesting info, but I have never deleted or altered credits. I have a copy of Jim's paper in my tech files with his name and proper credits on it, and it is possible that someone has mistakenly given me credit for Jim's work after I have forwarded his paper to them.

But I have never taken credit for Jim's work. Any such representation is incorrect, and has been mistakenly done by someone else. Jim is a friend of mine, and I would never take credit for his work or knowledge. This is the first time I have seen that site and the paper posted on that site. Let it be known: That tech paper was written by Jim Shea - not by me. I do not take any credit for it. I have a listing of original tech papers that I have written, but the steering gear adjustment paper is not one of them. For a listing of tech papers that I have written, you can e-mail me for a correct list:

Lars,
I was quite sure that you didn't post my paper over at the crossedflags sight. I would guess that your explanation as to how it might have happened makes the most sense. The thing that p*ssed me off, though, was that someone took the time to delete my name from the bottom of the paper.

I am continually feeding updated papers to Terry Rudy as I get more information on C3 and other steering system parts. That is why many of the corvettefaq steering papers have revision dates.

BTW, I have a number of papers specifically written for A and F-car enthusiasts over at the Chevelle Tech sight. Unfortunately, they have quit updating the sight so several of my papers and spreadsheets are now out of date over there. Terry Rudy was kind enough to set up a special area at his corvettefaq websight just for my Chevelle and Camaro papers. They are located at www.corvettefaq.com/A-car.asp

The A&F-car papers aren't nearly as extensive as my Vette papers (for one thing, I own a C3 not a Chevelle or Camaro muscle car).

Jim -
I have the same problem with many of my own papers - like you (and other engineering weenies) I use revision letters and dates to keep configuration control on my papers as I continuously update them, but there is no way for me to track down obsolete versions that are posted various places. I have found altered versions of my papers on several occasions, and people are always contacting me regarding information contained in obsolete papers that have long since been corrected. Like you, I have found several of my papers "floating around" with my name deleted, and I have found verbatim quotes "lifted" out of my papers posted on various forums with other peoples' names attached to them. It's a bit irritating, but I don't know what the solution is. In the meantime, I'll keep sending out my current tech info to those who request it and try not to let the little stuff bother me too much...

Take care!

Lars

Default How to Identify One of My Papers

Just as an additional note to the above comments, here's how to identify one of my papers:

All of my papers have my name in the top left hand part of the paper, along with the credit "SVE Automotive Restoration" or "Colorado Corvette Crazies" immediately below my name. In the top right hand corner of my papers, I always show a revision letter and a revision date, such as "Rev. B 8-19-02". If any of these items are not on the paper, the paper has been altered or changed, or it is not my paper. I keep a log of the revision letters and dates on each paper - you can contact me to see if the paper you have is at the latest revision, or if the paper you have is really one of my papers based on the date and revision letter.

Lars is a bit more meticulous than I am. If you want to check to see if you have one of my latest steering papers, go to www.corvettefaq.com and check the revision date posted in Terry Rudy's listing. If there is no date after the title and description, then the paper has never been updated. If there is a date, and your paper has an earlier date, you will need to download the latest from Terry's websight.
