Is anyone using a lakewood blowproof shield, with a borg & beck style clutch? I am having problems getting an adjustment that engages/ disengages completely. Some of the problem maybe the proximity of the clutch fork to the firewall. If the fork is perpendicular to the crank center line as outlined in the directions, the fork would hit the firewall. I have mine angled forward abit. Cold it is ok Hot the clutch slips under power & is difficult to adjust for engagements. Help. been adjusting alot & tired of going under the car. BTW I have speed direct clutch linkage.
This is what is so frustrating. I set the adjustment for complete disengagement, then get the drivetrain temp. up & I can't get full engagement. The sweet spotof adjustmetn is verrry narrow
I know, sounds contradictory. Very tired. When the clutch is adjusted with 1" or so of pedal play, it is hard to shift &apt to slip with heavy throttle. When I adjust so it so it has less pedal free play it is too little one way too much the other. I have had issues with this since install. but it did work with a narrow window of adj., & i mean it was a narrow window of adjustment. now when adj. for complete clutch engagement there is no or very little pedal play. when I add in some free play at the pedal it is hard to put in gear. It maybe slipping no matter what at this point. but i am not sure why. This borg beck clutch is supposed to be better than the diapharm, but i am not liking it... Dont see any binding & I beefed up the z-bar with additional bracing upon install.
There you go...you said you have 1 inch of free-play, and the clutch slips with heavy throttle...the clutch is toast. Unless you are running over 450 h.p., a good diaphram clutch will do fine. I prefer Centerforce 1 for mild engines, and Centerforce 2 for hot engines. My current C/F 2 has hundreds of autocross and drag runs, and never slips....G/L
Never dynoed but a "500" hp 383. the clutch was a fresh install last year, less than 1200 miles on and maybe 12 drag strip passes on street tires. If this clutch is gone, the car is going to sit awhile, i have had my fill of working under the car. did all new fuel syst & vb products. suspension this spring. The b@tch is, i picked up new hoosier quick times today.
Sorry for your problems with the clutch...shoulda lasted a long time...BTW, what heads, cam and intake are you using?...I am having problems reaching 500 hp. is now about 400+, should be 500.
You might check to see if you have the short(~1 1/4") rather than the longer(~1 3/4") throwout bearing.
Also, check Clutch Fork (#3887177) ...others are angled differently. good luck, jim
Thanx, I am running the stock corvette fork. am not sure about the throw out bearing size. I replaced it with the clutch & assumed that summit racing gave me the proper one with my order... Don't know when I'll tear it apart to check the bearing measurements, but will save your info. jim
