GEN light blinking

GEN light blinking
At idle, and up to about 1100 rpm, the GEN light blinks on and off. The voltmeter moves slightly to the same beat. Is the alternator about to go? What else could it be?
It's a '78 PC with L48 Auto.

Quite possible, I would check the wire harness plug that plugs into the back of the center console gauges. Make sure that it's pluged in good.
