Default Need some measurements

I just got a power steering control valve in from a local company and while installing one of the pressure hoses the valve body snapped. When I tried to pull the valve off it came off real hard and doubled threaded the threads on the drag link. As the car was just aligned I don't want to remove the drag link/ bar and take it to a machinest becuase I'll lose my alignment. The local ship fitters have dies that size and I can borrow a die from work. If anyone has a outside micrometer or off memory knows the O.D. and threads per inch I'd really appreciate. I want to chase the threads before the new valve and cylinder come in from Vette Brakes on Thursday.

bump

tap kits have them little dubies that tell you the threads per inch. You could try that.

edit, but i guess it won't work if its cross threaded.

Default Alignment OK

David,

You won't lose your alignment if you just remove the drag link without turning any of the tie rod sleeves or removing the tie rods from the front axle assemblies. Leave pitman arm on box also.

Much easier to get the drag link cleaned up off the car.

Cheers,
Joe

I'm going to try to use a dremel cutting wheel at low speed and just followed the gaps between the threads 360 around while hitting all the high spots and wiping out the spurious metal shavings. Only the first couple threads are jacked up, the rest are good. Joe I'll try this first. The ball joints are old and more than likely if I try to remove with a pickle fork I'll bust them and then I'll be looking at a new alignment. I'm trying to be conservative here as I just spent $300 on alignment. Next year the engine/ tranny suspension comes out for rebuild/ powder coat/ bushings etc.

Well it worked. Using the dremel on lowest speed I just followed the threads and hit high spots then took the old valave and used it to chase the threads until it turned by hand.

Well it took quite some time but it's mocked up with the old valve. Hopefully new valve is in Thuirsday.
