Points are crude mechanical/electrical design about 100 years old, prone to adjustment and wear issues. HEI, High Energy Ignition is an electronic system, much more reliable, with no periodic adjustments. It delivers a higher voltage spark, and the coil is integrated into the distributor cap. Yours should have HEI, available since 1975. HEI can be identified by a large cap, with no seperate ignition coil.
