Default SB 396 block question?????

I posted earlier about a 396sb.
The rotating assy is for a later style block 1-piece seal.
First will my current flywheel and balancer work with this crank.
I don't know if it's an internal or external balance with the new assy.
I have a 383 external set up now.
Second, since this is a later style block I get to use stock type roller lifters, and eliminate the problems with retro fit lifters {correct}???

What about the oil pan later style block have the dip stick on the pass side [correct]??? Which means I have to add a new pan into the price.

AHH the cost keep going up!

Flywheel and balancer will not work. I've never seen an externally balanced 3.875 crank, so you will need the internally balanced flywheel and balancer. You should be able to use the stock roller lifters if the block came with them, but I'm not sure that the stock ones are built for a performance application(read: extreme performance). If you are going with a mild build, they are probably going to be sufficient. If you have to get aftermarket lifters, they are still cheaper than the retro-lifters. I'm not sure what you are asking about the oil pan. Why would you have to get a new one? IF the late model block doesn't have one, you can buy an adapter which costs about $100 to make the two piece pan fit a one piece seal block.

i think it depends on the year of the block. i'm not sure, but i do know for a fact that you can buy an adapter for the rear main seal.

The adaptors are for using a 2 peice rear seal crank in a 1 peice block but you cannot use a 1 peice crank in a 2 peice block, the seal area is too big.

Some balancers come with a removable weight so can use them with either an int or ext balanced assembly, believe the flywheels are not interchangable for neither seals nor balancing types.

One piece seal cranks with an internal balance are an unusual breed. They use a neutral balance damper with an external imbalance on the flywheel. The reason for the external balance flywheel is due to the absence of the crank hatchet on the crank flange used on two-piece cranks. It's important when sorting through smallblock Chevy combinations to identify what it is that you are working with.
