Default Installing temp sensor

The temp sensor in my ZZ4 reads much hotter than the actual engine temp. I want to install the original sensor in the current cyl head location in the but it is a larger diameter. Is it ok to use an adaptor? What do you use to seal a single wire sensor? I assume you need to ground to the block.

Just an idea for ya, you might be able to get away with changing the resistor value for your temp guage instead of changing the sensor...

There are sensors tha tare the correct size for the head tha twork. I did this about 5 years ago with my AFR heads and it is now very close to being correct. As good as the original one was. It took the parts guy some time to hunt around for the correct one but it has been working OK for 5 years. I did not use any sealer as it is a tapered pipe thread and should not need any. You do want a good ground on this.

No sealer on pipe threads? Since when? I didn't recieve that memo...

Teflon tape works well, the tape is cut during install making a plenty good ground.

I put my sensor inthe intake manifold, it's slightly higher temp there since it's after the heads rather than before, but it's the maximum temp...

I used to share your theory until I learned my lesson! Teflon tape can be your worst enemy with sensors! I actually had one not work until I removed the teflon! You should never use it with them. Good old [Plumbers] pipe cement is the best (I use Rectorseal because my brother owns a plumbing shop and he gives me the beat up cans!). Lubricates the threads sufficiently for a good seal, but doesn't compromise the metal to metal interface.

Then you are using too much tape. You only need like two turns...

How did you decide what would work without having to plug it in and try it? I picked up the stock sensor at lunch. This thing is GIANT! I would prefer to measure the head temp as I am not running a bypass hose. so the manifold might be stagnant if the thermostat is not open
