I yanked out my 4spd today and dropping it off at the shop tomorroing for an estimate. My 3&4th syncros are shot. Anything else I can do to beef this thing up?
Also what is the going rate for a complete rebuild?
That inlcuded parts and labor - glass beading the tranny case, new bearings, new synchros, new gaskets, checking clearances for wear. All Genuine GM parts were used, no after market. Insist on Genuine GM parts. Technician who did it was a previous GM tech at a dealership when the muncies were in production. I highly recommend him. He is at Carlisle each year.
He is located in Northern Va., if your local tech does not work out you could ship the tranny but of course that would add to the cost.
If you want his name and number please send me a PM.

Check this site out, I talked to him at a swap meet. He's in Whitney Texas. Note prices quoted are labor only plus parts. www.kajunjon.com
Have you thought about doing it yourself? I just did my M20 and it was not a hard job at all. I bought my rebuild kit and the how to video from 5speeds.com. The video is excelent it even shows you how to evaluate for wear. The only special tools I need to buy were a good quality set of snap ring pliers. When you see the quote for rebuilding these things you might want to consider DIY.
I have been wondering too how hard it would be to rebuild one of these myself- I have a Super T-10. I was trying to gauge the degree of difficulty in rebuilding as a DIY job. Any comments

I rebuilt my own T5 5 speed. First ever rebuild. New bearings, synchros, 2nd gear etc. Really wasn't that hard. Getting tolerances set is the biggy...go for it!
