I am the proud new owner of a '74 stingray convertible. Unfortunately, the radio does not work, along with the clock and the interior lighting for the entire left and center dash. Oddly enough, though, the "door ajar" and "headlamps" alert lights do work. Perhaps they're wired separately? It doesn't appear to be a blown fuse. Basically, my knowledge is very limited, as I've never really worked on cars before. I have the entire dash removed, and I took the radio out...so I have access to any/all wiring. Does anyone have any advice for what steps to take to troubleshoot this?
I had that problem on my old 74. I believe all of those components have a shared ground that terminates at the radio. I don't have a schematic though to confirm this guess though.
Clock and radio probably don't work if they are original. Dash lights go through the headlight switch so it could be a fuse, wiring, HL switch, or deeper wiring issue that that.
Door ajar and headlight warnings are on a separate circuit.
Get a good wiring diagram. They sell nice poster size laminated ones that are not too expensive. If you get the shop manuals or assembly manual they also have wiring diagrams.
