Default Carburetor question

I have an old (needs to be rebuilt) 1968 Corvette 427 quadrajet carburetor (390 hp). The lid on the carburetor is partially broken. Can this be replaced with another lid off another quadrajet or are the lids made for that certain carburetor part number.

You're going to need to find and use a 1968 Chevy Q-Jet airhorn. It can be off of any '68 Chevy. The problem is going to be that the airhorns tend to take a warp or a twist that matches the float bowl they're installed on. Another airhorn may need a bit of work to make its twist match that of your bowl. If the airhorn does not mate well with the floatbowl in the area of the fuel transfer holes, the carb will not idle.

Default Thanks for the info about the carburetor. I want to rebuild this carburetor.

Thanks for the info on the carburetor, very informative. It is matching numbers quadrjet to that engine. #7028209, (427 Corvette engine, 390 hp). Hope I can find a lid for it that will work.

REPLY: Dont know if youre interested , but, im selling my Edelbrock EPS 800 which i had on my BB 1970 Vette. Only has 3000 miles on it. Used 2 summers. Runs excellent. Comes with the Tuning Kit (rods, springs, squirter, gaskets, jets, etc...) and owners manual. Carb looks brand new. No choke on it . One can be gotton., but, i found i didnt need a choke if i use it above 30 f. Never stalled on startup, and, didnt have to keep foot on the gas pedal either. Its a nice carb. Simple to work on and very well thought out. Will let it go cheap, and will offer a money back guarantee if for any reason you are not happy with it. I live in Northern Illinois and will ship parcel post. Im at : Fast1970vette@webtv.net
