MY car runs hot when you start it let it warm up it takes it a couple of minutes then its at about 150 the when you drive It takes about 5 mins or so to get to 180 which is the thermostat I have installed. After about 20 mins of driving around town at about 30-50 miles an hour it gets about 210 and sometimes goes all the way to 250. I have autometer sport comp guage in the car and it is wired in to the factory unit. The radiator is a new aftermarke factory stlye with a 12 and 10 inch electric fan. Water pump is flowing good and all should be well. So my question is why does it run hot. Also it is not overheating just running hot to extreamly hot.
since the gauge is hooked up, I would just put the sensor in one of the ports on the intake, and run a temp 18 gauge wire back to the cab and hook it to the sensor connection on the gauge and then go for a drive and see if it is the sensor. If not, just pull the autometer sensor out and hook up the old one again.
This is where an infra-red thermometer would come in useful ; point it and shoot to get your reading. You may not be overheating at all -- could be a bad guage or sensor . In the event you are ACTUALLY overheating as stated, investigate these things :
Are radiator sides/top/bottom sealed up ? Is the lower radiator hose collapsing at 3000 rpm thereby restricting flow ? Is the radiator/condensor surfaces clean ? Is the fan belt slipping at higher rpms ? DId you thoroughly clean the cooling system ? Are you running no more than 25% coolant to water ratio (water is the best cooling medium) .? Is the new thermostat sticking ? Temporarily take out the thermostat and go for a long spin --- see if anything changes . Good luck. Dave
