Well what can i say? the XE product is certainly getting beat up pretty bad even by guys who have installed them and broken them in properly... i have 3k on my XE 268 and it runs really well, i wonder if we will see the same failures in the agressive Lunati voodoo cams? I don't mind saying that you may be right on the money with the aggressive cam ramps, although i didn't think so before you have made convincing arguments for it and it definitely seems to support the anecdotal stories....i wonder if a better alternative is better heads and milder cams, it costs more but it may be worth it.

XE, I hear mentioned a lot in conjuction with the words "lobe wiped" This isn't recent events, it has been going on for years and people keep on buying them.
I have had real good luck using the same people that make GMs performance cams.

I just don't buy the "aggrssive ramp" theory. The old L82 cam is not a lot different from the XE or Voodoo lines and those lasted forever in production and still in motors over 100K today.

I didn't buy that theory either but i can't explain all the horror stories, certainly some failures must have to do with installation problems but other cams when installed properly still have failed.
For the record My XE 268h is working just fine.

Mine was installed properly and broken in on an engine dyno. . .
Comp is definatley having issues with the strength of their steel
FWIW, over on Hotrodders.com (my mistress I cheat on CF with ) there's currently a thread called "Flattened Cam?" dealing with a Lunati Voodoo cam.... so while not as common as the CC failures, it does happen to other makes as well. Installation issues notwithstanding....
This issue has been a topic of discussion over there too, although seemingly not as consistantly as here.

The XE series is not even close to the old L-82.
L-82 cam: 224/224@.050", .450/.460 total lift, 272/288 advertised duration
XE262 cam: 218/224@.050", .462/.469 total lift, 262/270 advertised duration
XE268 cam: 224/230@.050", .477/.480 total lift, 268/280 advertised duration
The XE series make more lift with a comparable .050" number which means steeper ramps. They also have anywhere from 4 to 18 degrees less advertised duration (usually a .004 or .006" lift number) for the same .050" lift duration. Once again steeper ramps.
FYI, I believe Chevolet advertised 300/306 duration at the cam for the L-82. That means a very gradual slope initially which would help the lifters live to 100k miles.
