After looking thru the various threads concerning the Gen light I did not see anything related. My problem is that the light stays on after starting my car for a bit then eventually goes off. Occasionly it will come back on when stopped at a light or stop sign then off again after a bit of driving. I have replaced the belt and alternator but the problem still exists. Any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Sounds like to be more like time for a new alt. The way the alt works and the sporadic on/off of it indicates that the battery is being drawn down even when the alt is turning or the alt is not providing enough output to charge the bat. Either one points to the alt being, or going, bad. Take it to Autozone and have them test it.
Make sure your connections to the alt are nice and clean. Especially the one that plugs in the top. When the light comes on, what does the gauge read as far as voltage?
In the morning the needle is well above the half way mark on the gauge and the light is still on. After running for a bit and the light goes off the needle is slightly above center. The light will come on at a stop and the needle is slightly below the center of the gauge. Have replaced the alternator and also have a spare alternator I keep in the garage for emergency use. Installed the spare and still have the same problems with the light. Battery is 3 months old and tests good as does the alternator.
Does your new alt still test good? Recently someone had the gen light problem and it was the diodes? If it was the regulator then not but something wrong can blow new diodes if it still exists when the new alt is wired in.

Just another thought, Any chance you might be running undersize pulleys? The alternator could be spinning so slowly at idle that it is not charging enough and the light comes on.
Then about the only other thing it can be is a voltage drop in the line to the light. That would come from a old rusty contact in a harness or anywhere from the alt post back to the light.
