Default Tremec/Keisler question

Has anyone ever used Keisler or one of their recommended installers? If so, what were the results? Please provide technical information in addition to opinion.

My 80 is an automatic and I'm seriously considering a conversion to a Tremec 5 speed. Since I don't have that level of expertise, I definitely want it done right the first time by professionals who stand by their work.

Thanks for your time.

I haven't installed one yet, but plan to.

Do a search for Keisler and/or Tremec. There's tons of stuff here on those topics. As a matter of fact there are a couple of them listed from yesterday and today.

Good luck...

71SoCal: Yep, I've already searched Tech and General forums. I've not found any information where Keisler did the actual transmission installation or one of their recommended installers.

I would like for Keisler to do the auto to manual swap and let the burden of perfection be on them. I don't want any trans leaks or vibration and, if cutting is involved that's fine. I just want it right the first time.

It appears that the Tremec is great. The potential difficulty is with installation.

Still seeking input. Thanks for any replies.

! asked for information on installer in Northern Ca. They sent me a quote for a transmission and said they would tell me an installer AFTER I purchsed their transmission.
I e-mailed them back and asked for a installer first so I could check costs etc. So far I havent heard from them.

Robert from Keisler posted a reply to one of my threads about t5 vs TKO... He put his number in the thread...

Check here

I have had about a dozen people tell me that they are difficult to work with and have poor customer service...not sure about their installers, I know that they are independent of Keisler.

Good luck

Actually, I'm hoping for first hand information from a Vette customer that had Keisler install their transmission. This would be at Keisler's shop, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Thanks,

I'm sure that if you brought your car to them in Knoxville and let them install the tranny you would be more than happy with the results.

But you'll also probably be broke! The cost of the Keisler swap will be about have the car's current book value...

Considering the difficulties people seem to be having with the swap in 80-82 cars, they might be more than willing to use your car as a test mule to help sort out the process and/or parts. Give'em a call and see.

I've got a friend who got a FREE Magnaflow catback exhaust system just for letting them use his car as the mule for a few days. In the end they even elected NOT to produce the system because of low demand and low performance improvement. He's ended up with the only one and didn't pay nuthin' for it.

I'm not saying you should expect the same of Keisler, but they might jump at the chance to iron out some problems and give you a deal on installation in the process...ya never know.
