Had the car out the other day and it seemed to be running just fine. Shut the car down and went to start it and car would not idle properly. Shut the car down and tried to start it today and same problem with idle. When tried pumping the pedal to make it idle it back fired through the carb with a big blast of flame. Any idea's ??? Thanx Brent
I agree with pauvil, could be an ignition problem.
Could be that the distributor mechanical advance is sticking, giving you an overly advanced condition. Take the cap off the distributor and turn the rotor by hand. It should move easily clockwise about 30 degrees or so and then spring right back. If it doesn't spring back get some good lube like TriFlow or even WD40 if you have nothing else and get it in there.
