Default 2004r install...bottom line

Ok heres the deal. I got a lead on a 2004r out of a Caprice, forget what year, but late 80s. I have been toying with the idea of putting one in, but now that I may have one in the next few days, I need to known the bottom line here.

This will go into a 77 L48 with a TH350. I know the dimentions are the same and the crossmember does not need to be moved. I need a complete list of parts to complete this. We are going to do this for the long ride to Effingham in 2 weeks. So time is limited.

I need to know;
1 - What is the lock up wiring I need? I see something on bowtie overdrives.com but am confused exactly what I need. Could someone clairify?

2 - TV cable do I need to hook up to the carb and what else do I need at the carb to hook this up(stock engine and carb, original)?

3 - What U-joint do I need? What car should I ask for, part number??

4 - What else??? Do I have it covered??

I am very skilled and have done many transmission swaps in my life, alot in my 86 Trans Am alone, plus did a 6-speed in my 84 vette, so I can hanle the work, just dont have time for error and must get all parts ordered and ready to go before I start so this can get done.

I have seen many post regarding this swap but I think I need it spelled out to me. Thank you

I was going to call them tomorrow, but also wanted info from people who have done it for comparison reasons so that I am sure I am getting the correct info. Kind of a double check system.

BTO requires the solenoid and kit they sell. The kit is just the switch, the solenoid you'll put in the trans yourself. When you talk to them, they'll clarify.

If you have a q-jet and you decide to go with the TV made EZ, make absolutely sure it'll fit your linkage. It didn't fit mine. I ended up going to a universal system. They sell that system, but you'll have to do a little snooping.

U-joint? Not sure, I think you can use your TH350 yoke and ujoint.

Unless you can fabricate your own bracket, get the shifter kit. It has a shifter bracket, plus the shift plate for the console. The old bracket off my TH400 didn't fit, so the kit works well.

Let me dig up my topic on my conversion.

Here's the link to my conversion. A lot of other people have done it and have links and sites for it. I had about a week to do the conversion, so as long as you have all the parts, it'll move quickly.

I got the TV Made EZ kit for a 1905 Q-jet & it fitted fine ('81 Vette with stock E4ME Q-jet).
3 - What U-joint do I need? What car should I ask for, part number??
The yoke & U joint from my stock Th350c fitted fine. Can't help with U joints as on the '81 there's different sizes depending on auto or manual shift.

The pressure gauge from BTO is extremely useful when setting up the TV cable & checking out the trans. Worth the money IMO.
An external trans cooler would be worth getting, especially if you run in the low gears a lot (or in OD with the converter unlocked). I found that the trans temps were getting high when just using the stock rad cooler.

p.s. The converter lockup wiring can be done several ways. What I did (& the trans had the BTO solenoid, etc fitted internally) was to run a live feed off of my stock TCC brake switch (the '81 had a locking converter as stock) directly to pin D on the trans TCC connector. The converter locks as soon as the trans shifts into OD & will only unlock if it downshifts under heavy throttle, I manually change down, or if I brake. This was done as a temporary "get it on the road quick" fix, but works so well that I've left it as it is. I've got a 2.87 rear & the pulling power when in OD is pretty grim, so it downshifts (or I do it manually) if I want to put some power down. I use OD purely as a cruising gear so don't need to unlock the converter.
