Thanks for all the the input and suggestions with my problems! I got the Vette running over the holiday; turns out it was the rear rubber lines that were causing the calipers to lock up. I replaced all the lines, pads, and rear capliers; Drained the old fluid and bled the lines! Good as new!
Now I have to get this L-48 opened up! I was planning I putting true duals with polished turbo mufflers and a full tune up. The car hesitates like crazy; The wires and distribitor are original; does anyone have suggestions to optimize performance using a new distrubitor or should I just use OEM? Also would it benefit if I replace the old Q-Jet to a Holly or Demon...any CFM recomendations? And lastly, I want to eventually replace the heads. This may be a stupid question but can I do the change without pulling the engine? Also, if I did an head change without the cam would I benefit? My goal is 275-300HP out of the L-48; I love the car is original but I cannot handle the lack of performance! Not that I would ever sell her anyway!
The Q-Jet is a good carb, as long as it's set up and running properly all you may need to do is rejet it.
You can replace the heads without removing the engine.
You'll have to remove the rad (not the most fun thing to do)if you want to replace the cam.
you would be suprised how much just getting a good tune up can help a car!
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor,timing
Carb rebuild
Leave the jets alone for now, nothing has changed on the engine.
The hesitation is probably because the accelerator pump is dried out.
Just these changes will make a remarkable difference in the way it runs.
I haven't been doing this for a very long time, I'm only just starting with my 76, but one of the things that gave my car a boost was replacing the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. Buy a distributer recurve kit (they're like $10) and use the Timing Paper by Lars. Really put the punch into the acceleration
